Mental health support services

Enable was set up in 2008 by Debbie Boyes. Debbie is a Mental Health Nurse with more than 25 years’ experience in working with people with a range of mental health problems. In her NHS career, Debbie worked as a Specialist Nurse in Mental Health and developed and managed various teams including Assertive Outreach, Early Intervention in Psychosis and Home Treatment.

Sue Marshall also has many years’ experience working with people with serious mental health needs and brings her carer experience to her role – Head of Support Services.

Donna Trott is our Mental Health Lead working in our housing services to ensure people living there always receive the highest quality support. Donna has worked in the past as a Registered Mental Health Nurse with many years of experience in working with people with a wide range of mental health needs, particularly older people. Donna works part time with us, running her own mental health Micro-Enterprise alongside her role in Enable.

Mark Wolmersley is our Housing Operations Manager. Mark has a background in mental health social work and specialised in working in Substance Misuse services. Mark lived overseas for many years, working in environmental consulting. After returning to the UK,  Mark felt drawn to his original career in mental health.

Debbie, Sue, Mark and Donna are passionate about the rights of people with mental health needs to access high quality support and care; the service was set up to achieve this.

Our knowledge, experience and commitment enable us to provide specialised support to people with the most complex mental health needs within the Recovery model. We train and support our staff to build effective relationships with our clients, aimed at engaging, supporting and enabling them.

Step Up and Step Down Housing Services

We work in partnership with Somerset County Council and Somerset Foundation NHS trust – providing short term supported accomodation for people with mental health needs.

Step Up is 24 hour crisis house in Yeovil. It provides intensive, recovery focused support for 3-10 days to people experiencing an increase in their mental health needs. The house has 6 bedrooms and communal living spaces as well as a large garden. Support is provided 1-1 and in small groups and focuses on social and emotional needs. Staff work with residents to access their usual support networks and identify new sources of support. There is also practical support on offer – aimed at increasing skills and confidence in daily living skills. The aim of the service is to provide support and prevent a mental health crisis and admission to hospital. People already in hospital can also be referred and come to the house for a short period so that they can spend a shorter peiod in hospital.

Step Down is a small house in Wells which offers supported accomodation for 2-6 weeks to people who are an inpatient on an NHS mental health unit in Somerset and who have no home to be discharged to. The house has 4 bedrooms and communal living spaces. We provide intensive support with securing qood quality, permanent accommodation and practical assistance with daily living tasks such as budgeting, meal planning and cooking, paying bills and dealing with post.
