Mental Health Support Worker

Due to our service growing, we are looking for applicants with experience in supporting people with mental health needs to join our small friendly team. We are looking for Mental Health Support Workers to work across our Community and Housing Teams.

We provide practical and social support to people with mental health needs living in their own homes in Somerset. We currently have posts in the Mendips (Wells, Glastonbury and Taunton areas).

We don’t provide personal care or wear uniforms and this is a Support Worker as opposed to carer role – being able to work in an enabling way, promoting independence is a core requirement of the post. All our work is delivered via support sessions which tend to be for 2-3+ hours at a time so there’s time to  get to know each client and work alongside them within their support plan.

Our work is mainly practical – supporting people with managing day to day tasks such as budgeting, shopping, healthy meal planning and prep, attending appointments, basic housework, managing a tenancy and benefits issues. There is also some social support – getting exercise together, linking in with local community groups and events, going for the odd coffee etc

Working Hours– Our service operates 9am-7pm – 7 days a week. Most of the support we provide is delivered in the 9-5, Monday to Friday period. However, we do provide a small amount of early evening support and some support at the weekends. All applicants therefore must be available to work occasional weekends and a small share of evenings.

Driving and DBS Requirements– As this is a community post, applicants must also have a clean driving licence, business insurance and a car.

All applicants must have a clear Enhanced DBS check.

Rates of Pay– £8.90 per hour Monday to Saturday, £10.00 on a Sunday. 35p per mile with fully paid mileage and travel time.

Benefits– We offer good rates of pay, fully funded DBS and high levels of support and supervision. Annual leave allocation includes an extra day off on your birthday.

We are looking for zero hours staff to work part-time hours.
